Open Atelier Workshop at POLIMI

Parallel to the launch of the Digital Competition, the Open Atelier POLIMI Team organized a workshop engaging an international group of forty students to explore innovative interpretations and uses of “Past Heritage for a Sustainable Future”. The initiative was held at Politecnico di Milano from 5 to 10 February 2024, and resulted in eight proposals envisioning groundbreaking ideas for the development of problem-solving and potential-exploiting solutions to support the four Open Atelier museums in innovating and enhancing the work with their collections, spaces and audiences.

The intensive activities of the students were supported by the tutoring of several Professors from Politecnico di Milano (Gennaro Postiglione, Giulia Gerosa, Lola Ottolini and Elena Montanari, together with Filippo Orsini and Davide Fabio Colaci) and tutors (Nicola Campri, Claudia Mainardi, Lucilla Grossi, Federica Guarnieri), as well as by a seminal lesson by Paola Donini, from the Department of Management and Technology at Università Bocconi Milano, who shared a nurturing presentation about the intertwining of cultural work into the development of SDGs.  A further significant contribution to the participated experience was brought by the directors and curators of the four Open Atelier museums, who had online meetings with the students and played a strategical part in inspiring and sharpening their efforts.

The workshop in Milan represents the first phase of this experience; the second one will take place in Venice, during the Open Atelier Biennale Session, and will be developed through the cooperation with AMAT.
